We fix what you already own
Replacement isn't the default answer. A worn seal or a fouled cartridge is a small repair, and we treat it like one.

Service and repairs
System acting up at your place off Polhemus Road? We diagnose and repair softeners, RO, UV, and whole-house filters in San Mateo, and leave them running properly.
Salty water, a constant drip under the sink, a UV alarm that won't quit. San Mateo Water Filtration handles water filter repair and maintenance in San Mateo for the equipment people already own, whoever originally put it in.
Most faults are not mysterious. Valves stick, O-rings dry out, cartridges load up, membranes wear, and lamps reach the end of their rated life. On the visit we take readings, find the actual fault, and tell you whether a repair makes sense or whether a part has simply worn out. Many repairs are finished in one visit.
These are the failures we see most often on the Peninsula, and how we deal with each one.
A softener or backwashing filter that won't cycle usually has a worn piston, tired seals, or a failed motor. We rebuild or replace the valve and reset the regeneration schedule.
Bypass valves and housing O-rings dry out and start to weep. New O-rings and the right silicone lube often stop the leak without replacing anything else.
A loaded sediment or carbon cartridge drops pressure and lets chloramine taste return. We swap it, check the housing, and suggest a change interval based on what we pulled out.
When an RO system's TDS reading creeps up, the membrane is losing rejection. We measure before and after, and replace the membrane and prefilters together.
Slow fill or a sputtering faucet often means the storage tank's air charge is low. We recharge or replace the tank and fix any drip at the faucet.
UV lamps lose output well before they go dark, so they're replaced on a schedule, typically once a year. We change the lamp and clean or replace the quartz sleeve at the same time.
Salt bridges and mushing stop a softener from making brine. We break up the bridge, clean out the tank, and check the brine valve and float.
Iron and sediment can coat softener resin or filter media over time. We clean it where that works and replace the media where it's past saving.
After a repair, we leave a simple schedule for cartridges, salt, lamps, and membranes. It's based on your readings, not a generic chart.
When you book, tell us what the system is and what it's doing, and send a photo of the label if you can. That lets us bring the likely parts. More often than not, it saves a second trip.
We take readings, run the system through a cycle, and check valves, seals, and consumables. You see what we find and hear what it means. Most diagnoses take under an hour.
Common fixes like O-rings, cartridges, membranes, and lamps are usually done in one visit. We repair, run the system, and take a follow-up reading to confirm it's working. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the cost and timing in writing first.
Replacement isn't the default answer. A worn seal or a fouled cartridge is a small repair, and we treat it like one.
We measure before and after every repair, so you know the system is actually doing its job again. You'll know what's in the glass, not just that the leak stopped.
Sometimes a system really is past saving. When the repair costs more than it's worth, we say so and lay out the options.
A softener, RO, or UV unit that's stopped performing usually needs one part, not a new system. Book a service visit, and we'll diagnose it, fix it, and show you the readings.
