Whole-House Water Filtration in San Mateo

Every tap in the house, treated at the one point where the line comes in. We fit whole-house systems for San Mateo homes from the flats along El Camino Real to the hillside streets above.

What a Whole-House System Fixes in San Mateo

San Mateo Water Filtration installs whole-house water filtration for San Mateo homes that want treated water at every faucet, not just the kitchen. Most of the city drinks Cal Water supply from the regional Hetch Hetchy system, disinfected with chloramine that lingers in the pipes and in the shower.

It makes sense when the chloramine smell bothers you, when older galvanized lines shed rust, or when you want one fix instead of five separate filters. The visit is simple: we take a reading, look at the main line, quote in writing, and fit the system in one visit.

What the Install Covers

A whole-house job is mostly about the main line and the media. Here is what goes into it.

  • Water reading at the hose bib

We measure chloramine residual, TDS, hardness, and pH before anything is quoted. You see the numbers, and the numbers decide the setup.

  • Flow-rate sizing

Tank and cartridge sizes are matched to the number of bathrooms and your peak demand. An undersized system drops shower pressure, so we size for the busiest morning in the house.

  • Sediment pre-filter

A spin-down or pleated cartridge catches grit and rust flakes ahead of the carbon. It protects the main media and is the part older galvanized houses need most.

  • Catalytic carbon tank

Catalytic carbon breaks down chloramine far better than standard carbon does. For Cal Water supply, this tank is the core of the system.

  • Bypass loop and shut-off valves

A three-valve bypass lets you isolate the system for service without cutting water to the house. Media changes happen without draining your plumbing.

  • Main-line connection

We cut in where the supply enters, usually in the garage, a side yard, or a basement utility area. Copper, PEX, and galvanized connections all get proper transition fittings.

  • Pressure check

Pressure is measured at a fixture before and after the install. If it drops more than expected, we adjust the setup before we leave.

  • Optional post-filter

A fine post-filter can polish the water after the carbon tank. We add it only if the reading or your goals call for it.

  • Media schedule

You leave with a written note of when the cartridge and the carbon media are due. No guessing and no surprise visits.

How a Whole-House Job Runs

  1. Reading and walk-through

We take a reading at the main line and at a kitchen tap. Then we look at where the supply enters and how much room there is to work. You get a written quote with the equipment spelled out. The walk-through takes about half an hour.

  2. Install day

Water is shut off for part of the visit while we cut into the main line. You will see the bypass, the pre-filter, and the tank mounted on a pad or wall bracket. We flush the carbon until it runs clean. Most houses are done in one visit of a few hours.

  3. Readings after

Once the water is back on, we take a second reading at the kitchen. You see the chloramine number drop next to the first result. We walk you through the bypass valves and the cartridge change, which takes about ten minutes.

Why Choose San Mateo Water Filtration for Whole-House Water Filtration

Built for chloramine, not chlorine

Plenty of whole-house setups are sized for chlorine and fall short on chloramine. We specify catalytic carbon because that is what the Peninsula supply actually needs.

Older-plumbing experience

Baywood, San Mateo Park, and Aragon have plenty of galvanized and mixed-metal lines. We plan the pre-filter around rust and sediment, so the carbon is not doing a job it was never meant to do.

No softener tacked on

San Mateo water is generally soft. If your reading does not show a hardness problem, we will not sell you a softener alongside the filter.

Get Every Tap in the House Covered

Start with a reading at your place and a written quote for the full system. If one filter at the kitchen would do the job, we will say so. Book a time and you'll know what's in the glass, and in the shower.
